I have a tendency to look outside of La'ie to find activities where my family can spend time together.
I've noticed though that the things which make my children happy are the small, simple and often free
activities we are able do right here in La'ie.
The Beach
La'ie has beautiful beaches. Temple Beach is great for young kids since the waves remain pretty mellow. For a little more excitement Hukuilau Beach is all about body surfing. Or just relaxing and floating in one of the calm tide pools naturally cut out in the reef.
The Temple
The Mormon Temple is quiet and beautiful. A lovely place where families may walk together and enjoy each others company. The Visitors Center plays a variety of films and offers interactive kiosks for families to use. It is a wonderful way to spend time together.
Parks and Playgrounds
Although a small community La'ie isn't lacking for parks, playgrounds and big grassy fields. Not to mention the basketball courts, tennis courts, and university swimming pool!
Bike Riding
The streets in La'ie are well taken care of. Perfect for riding bikes. Residents, used to seeing children on the streets do well watching for youngsters on bikes. The big, nearly always empty parking lot at BYU-Hawaii gives young kids a great, safe place to learn to ride.
Laie Falls Trail
Healthy for the whole family, fun and free! Hiking is a great way to spend time with the family. La'ie has some of the best hiking trails on O'ahu. Locals spend a considerable amount of time keeping the trails in good condition.
Hula
Hula classes are a wonderful way for young people to learn about the rich history of Hawaii and its culture. They also help children learn discipline, listening to adults and working together with others. And they are fun!
